2Room Magazine Mobile App for iOS and Android

2024 to 2025
2Room Magazine is a digital publication that shares stories about female Korean expats. I led the complete design of the mobile experience including product features, interface design, and visual branding to bring our editorial tone to life in a convenient, mobile-first format.

🧭 Role-
> Led product ideation and execution from concept to launch
> Designed the Reader app for users, as well as the in-app CMS Tool for admins.
> Worked with iOS and Android developers, delivering specs, components, and testing iterations throughout implementation.
> Version 1 (monthly production) shipped January 2024, Version 2 (daily article based production) shipped March 2025
✍🏻 Design Approach-
> Our goal was to create a modular, scalable, system that has intuitive natvigation and the potential to grow with the content library. I focused on:
> Flexible browsing flows that let readers jump from content to another by swiping
> Creating a reading experience that feels on brand, calm and culturally specific, and highlighting the artwork and illustration forward.
> Making sure population the platform with content is easy and efficient via intuitive Editing Tool.

> Curated Home Screen: Articles are sorted by theme and location. Customization is available with the Editing tool.
> All Articles View: all published articles listed in order of date.
> Filter by Region: Stories organized and filtered by country.
> Keyword Tag Search: Convenient way to filter content for thematic discovery.
> Recommended Reads: Suggestions shown at the end of article.
> Badges: Visual labels for ‘Free’ and ‘Bookmarked’ content.
> In-App Editing Tool: Customized tool for staff to upload an manage content directly.

As 2Room’s co-founder with design background, I led the overall visual direction for social media content.

> Redesigned the magazine’s preview content for social media, providing a sneak peek into the stories and interviews we deliver with strong typography and editorial design.
> As the brand identity solidified, I reflected that on the social media with a scalable template system to keep consistency and keep flexibility.
> Added motion graphics to further enhance engagement while keeping the tone of the brand.
> Worked with editors to visually align the different content types.

> Effectively highlighting the tone of the content with graphics, utilizing typography, photography and illustration to enhance and promote the original content’s tone.
> Ensure legibility of the content while being visually experimental.

🌟 Outcome -
Even without any paid ads, 2Room’s social audience grew from <1k to over 5k followers during the first 6 months. Among the new followers were many designers and creatives, which I am especially proud of.

As a motion graphics designer, I created short-form animated editorials for the brand’s Snapchat Discover channel. The work focused on creating fast, eye-catching editorial content that supported the brands’ fun pop culture tone. Each piece is engaging within the first second and legible at the same time while aligning with the editorial content.
